Hello everyone! I'm sitting down here in Mexico just reflecting on the past couple weeks via my little photo journal in Instagram. It's been such an adventure the last two weeks coming down to Rancho La Puerta, experiencing life around here. First of all, it's such a magical place, it's really hard to describe. I was actually talking about this with some guests last night at dinner. We all agreed that this is one of those places that you just need to come to to really experience its magic. Sure, I can post all these pretty photos of the landscape and the food, but that doesn't convey the overall feeling of peacefulness and happiness that everyone feels while they're here.
This place has also inspired me to get in shape. I was going to say "get back in" shape, but the truth is I don't think I ever have really been in shape. That's something this place has taught me, lol. I mean, I used to swim competitively, but was eating horribly at the same time...I just had youth on my side. Now, I eat well, but have definitely been lacking physical activity. I took a beginner TRX class yesterday and it absolutely kicked my butt. That's when I realized the denial that I was in! Yes, coming to the Ranch and seeing these instructors who are truly in shape has changed my view of working out. For those of us who are not "fitness instructors" it is hard to find the time and commitment to doing it, but it's essential for overall health. I had the honor to be able to hear a talk last night by Deborah Szekely, the founder of Rancho La Puerta, who is 90. She told us that she does Pilates three times a week and walks three hours on Sundays. I mean, come on! If she can do it, any of us can. Such an inspiring speech.
Anyway, besides the health kick I've been on, the weather has been just gorgeous around here in San Diego. Sometimes the weather can be fickle here, especially by the beach where it can get foggy. I know it's hard to believe because everyone thinks that Southern Cali is sunny all year long. It's not! Still, the last couple weeks it's been beach weather which has been awesome.
Guess what? I'm getting married one month from today! It's coming up so fast now, I can't believe it! There is still so much to get done of course, but we're just ready to do this. If I can give any advice about getting married...have a short engagement. We thought having a long engagement would be better, but it actually just prolongs the stress of planning a wedding. Trust me.
Lastly, did any of you hear about the San Diego fireworks all going off at the same time? It was a big explosion and there was about four barges where all the fireworks went off at once by accident...well we were in this tiny little motor boat about 1000 yards away when it happened and it scared the sh** out of us (excuse my french), but it did. You can see Athan on the boat in the photos on the right and I was also able to snap a photo of the explosion too. It was nuts. Just thought I'd share our little 4th of July adventure.
You can see all these photos above on my Instagram account, be sure to follow me @bohemiankate for more photo updates.
I hope everyone is having a great week and summer :) Isn't this time of year the best?
xoxo...Kate
