Wow...this weekend has been intense. It has reminded me how much I love the people around me and how much I need them in my life. Yesterday was my first of two bridal showers. This one was for family, most of which were Athan's. He comes from a big Greek family! It was a wonderful time. Everyone was so gracious...I really can't believe they were all there for me! I'm not used to having big parties as the guest of honor. The decorations were beautiful and the food was delicious. Most of all, it was really nice to have my mom, my Aunt Michele, my Aunt Fran and my maid of honor, Liz, there to meet Athan's family. Everyone had a blast! A big thanks to my new sis Andrea and our amazing family friend, Carol, for planning everything. Truly, I will always remember this...
One of the most special gifts of the day was this family cookbook with recipes from both Athan's family and my own. It has all my mom and dad's best recipes that I loved growing up. My dad's shrimp scampi and my mom's enchiladas. Damn, they are sooo good! It was really surprising to see other recipes from my extended family like my aunts and my cousins...I really can't wait to try all of them. Of course, there are a ton of super yummy Greek recipes in there too...I'm going to be very busy in the kitchen, I can already tell. A huge thanks goes out to Athan's mom, Alexia, for putting this book all together. It was such a nice surprise!
Also, I want to thank my mom and aunts for driving three hours down to San Diego to come to the shower. It means so much, I can't even tell you. By the way...they got me a Vitamix blender...I mean come on...how awesome is that? I'm going to be blending up everything. Watch out...
Lastly, the reason for all of this is my baby, Athan. We met over four years ago and have been together ever since. This weekend really made realize how much I love him. Of course, I already knew that, but you know how sometimes it just kind of punches you in the gut and you're like DAMN, I really, really love you. Well...that's how I felt this weekend. I absolutely cannot live without my man...sure sometimes he can be stubborn and drive me crazy, but...when push comes to shove I'm there for him always. Nobody makes me giggle like him and I can't say no to his angel face...seriously... the face of an angel.
K folks, I am so beat, I gotta get some rest...about to heat up some soup for dinner and watch the season finale of Man Men :)
xoxo...Kate
p.s...I know I was talking about posting my new ice cream recipes this weekend, but I had some unexpected and very serious things come up that I had to attend to...but don't worry, they'll be up soon ;)
