For some reason, no matter how old we get, it's always fun to go back in time and relive our high school years with a good teen movie. There are a million great ones out there, but here are the best high school movies in my opinion.
My number one all time favorite is Dazed and Confused. I was in 7th grade when it came out. The first time I had heard of the movie was in an issue of Entertainment Weekly which I used to get back then. The reviewer gave it an A and I was intrigued by all the 70s memorabilia, plus I thought the guy who played Mitch Kramer was pretty cute. Then I saw the trailer for it on t.v. with War's Low Rider playing in the background and I knew I had to see it. I finally got to watch it when it came out on VHS and I absolutely loved it. The clothes, the music, the characters... I loved everything. I wanted to wear bell bottoms because of it (which I didn't because it so wasn't cool back in '93). So there you have it, my ultimate teenage high school movie.
I was just a little kid when Fast Times at Ridgemont High came out, but I saw later on in high school and have loved it ever since. The characters are hilarious...Spicoli definitely reminds of some of the guys I went to high school with having grown up in Southern California. I adore the clothes and the music too. This movie to me is timeless.
Oh how I love 16 Candles. It was the perfect slumber party movie back in the day. I could totally relate to Molly Ringwald in that movie. This film to me is the epitome of 80s teen movies...I want to watch it again, it's been awhile!
I love Say Anything so much! It's my favorite John Cusack movie, he is the most perfect cute nerd in this film. It's such a great mixture of comedy, romance and drama. Love it! If you haven't seen it, you must go rent it right now!
You can't have a list of the best highschool movies without including The Breakfast Club. It's just not possible. I never get tired of watching this movie, plus the 80s clothes and soundtrack are so quinessential.
I hope I have a rainy day soon where there is nothing to do, but stay in and watch these movies. That sounds like perfection to me.
xoxo...Kate
